About Us

Australian Barbell Company began in 1942 as a hobby in the Moorabbin garage of Mr Bill Pole. A move to Clarendon St, South Melbourne followed after the war. During these early years, a mate, Roy Langford, manufactured barbells and dumbbells for Bill at his small engineering business (Roysen Engineering) in the back of a mechanics workshop in Black Rock. Roysen moved to a factory in Cheltenham in the 1950's.

Australian Barbell Company began to establish a reputation as a manufacturor of dumbbells and barbells. Roysen Engineering continued to manufacture for Australian Barbell Company along with machining components for many other manufacturers, including the Motor Vehicle & Construction industries. In 1989 Robert Langford (Roy's son) and his wife Denise, purchased Australian Barbell Company as part of if it's diversification plan. The company evolved quickly and became Australia's leading specialist supplier of weightlifting and strength training equipment.

Australian Barbell Company - along with its sister business, Roysen Engineering - is now owned and operated by the third generation of the Langford family (Robert & Denise's children) from a large manufacturing & warehousing plant in Mordialloc, Melbourne, Australia. Australian Barbell Company is most proud of its reputation earned over 80+ years of supplying an extensive range of premium quality products - many of which are Australian Made & the balance carefully sourced from around the globe.
